COMMUNITY SAFETY  -  KNIFE CRIME & THE LAW

We are reminding all residents that carrying a knife in public without a valid reason is illegal and can lead to serious consequences.

🔹 It is against the law to carry most knives in public places without good reason (e.g. for work, religious purposes, or national costume).
🔹 Even a small knife can result in arrest if carried unlawfully.
🔹 The maximum penalty for illegal knife possession is up to 4 years in prison, an unlimited fine, or both.

⚠️ Knife crime has devastating impacts on individuals, families and our community.  Many incidents involve young people carrying knives out of fear—but this often increases risk rather than reduces it.

What you can do:
• Talk to young people about the dangers and consequences
• Report concerns anonymously via Crimestoppers (0800 555 111)
• Call 999 in an emergency or 101 for non-urgent concerns
